Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome is also known as IBS or spastic colon or irritable colon. It is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder that causes abdominal pain and discomfort, bloating because of gas formation especially after meal
causing diarrhea or constipation.

It’s not clear what causes IBS, but it’s been linked with a few things like stress, infection, sensitivity towards certain foods and family history

The symptoms vary from person to person, but common symptoms are constipation, diarrhea, and cramping, Having to Pass Motion Right After a meal

Risk factors:

– Abnormal gut mobility
– Diet
– Mental health
– Genetics
– Infections
– Environmental factors (smoking, alcohol)

Common treatments for IBS include probiotics that aid the gut to work better; laxatives to relieve constipation; prokinetics is to increase the Gut mortality and relieve symptoms like cramping or urgency; antidepressants or antidiarrheals for those with chronic pain or depression; and diet changes.

Symptoms

  • Changes in bowel habits
